Taliban Are Said to Target Hazaras to Try to Match ISIS’ Brutality

By ROD NORDLAND and JAWAD SUKHANYARAPRIL 22, 2015

KABUL, Afghanistan — A wave of kidnappings followed by numerous beheadings of members of Afghanistan’s Hazara ethnic group have spread alarm and anger among a people who historically have been this country’s most persecuted.

The police in Ghazni Province confirmed Sunday that four Hazara farmers kidnapped by the Taliban had been found beheaded in Ajristan District. Six more Hazaras from Daikundi Province who had been kidnapped by unknown assailants were also found dead, dumped in Ajristan, less than a week after their families began searching for them, officials confirmed on Monday.

Although the police have not yet recovered the bodies, local reports said they, too, had been beheaded.

Beheading is not normally a Taliban tactic, but the insurgents seem to be trying to make an ugly example of the Hazaras, in what some see as a bid for attention.

“The Taliban are trying to send out a new message that they are similar in their brutality to ISIS,” said Shahgul Rezaye, a Hazara member of Parliament, referring to Islamic State extremists from Iraq and Syria, who reportedly have been trying to recruit supporters in Afghanistan. “They’re trying to show they are as bad as ISIS.”...... Pakistan’s Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and Chechen militants behind the abduction of 30 Hazara men in Zabul

The highway connecting Kandahar with Kabul is one of the busiest and dangerous highways in Afghanistan

Putting all speculation to rest, the government authorities in southern Zabul province have confirmed that Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Lashkar e Jhangvi (LeJ) and Chechen militants were behind the abduction of 30 people on Kabul-Kandahar highway three days ago.

LeJ and Chechen terrorists, together with Taliban insurgents in Zabul, are believed to have abducted the 30 men belonging to ethnic Hazara community.

No group has officially claimed responsibility for the incident, which has given rise to many conflicting reports and speculations.

The incident took place on Monday night in Shahjoy district of Zabul province when a group of masked gunmen abducted 30 men from the Hazara ethnic community while they were travelling from Iran to Kabul...Continue Reading...

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — Gunmen in southern Afghanistan kidnapped 30 members of the Hazara ethnic community, authorities said Tuesday, in what appeared to be the latest in a series of attacks on Shiites in the predominantly Sunni country.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack Monday afternoon, police and officials said.

The gunmen kidnapped the 30 people, all men, from two vehicles on a major road in Zabul province, provincial Gov. Mohammad Ashraf said. He said all women, children and non-Hazaras were left behind...Continue Reading...

Orya Maqbool Jan as an LeJ penman

And we were hoping that Pakistan is changing. While Pakistanis are still mourning the loss of innocent lives in Peshawar School attack by Taliban, here comes one more hate writing against Hazaras. I agree with him on one point that, on long run hatred develops into madness. And he provides the evidence with writing a hateful column. After reading this column, I am wondering if Orya Maqbool Jan is working as an LeJ penman, and suggesting Taliban to turn their guns against Hazaras? He wants to counter Taliban's rationalization of Peshawar Massacre, and begins its column with blaming Hazaras. There is no connection between Hazaras and the whole argument of the column. Out of 50 to 60 thousands people killed in terrorist attacks across Pakistan, no one can name a single person that was killed by Hazaras. Instead, Hazaras have been the victim of terrorism for 15 years. What could be the reason for blaming victims other than a blind hatred?

P.S: At this critical time, when the whole nation is united and determined against terrorism, Taliban apologists are trying to change the discourse and confuse the nation.

(Reuters) - From the ruins of a bombed-out palace above Kabul, a young Afghan man bearing a striking resemblance to kung fu legend Bruce Lee is high-kicking his way to Internet fame, aiming to show another side to his war-weary nation.

Videos and photos of Abbas Alizada, 20, posted on the Facebook page "Bruce Hazara" show him performing back flips and striking Lee's famous poses. They blazed throughAfghanistan's small Internet community this week, part of a publicity burst he hopes will catapult him to broader fame.

"I want to be a champion in my country and a Hollywood star," Alizada said at Kabul's desolate Darulaman palace, where he trains twice a week, swirling nunchakus and sporting a Lee-like bowl haircut....Continue Reading...
