QUETTA: Traders’ union of Balochistan on Thursday organised a peace rally in Quetta in order to give a message of harmony and peace during Muharram.
The rally, which started from the Metropolitan Office, was led by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Sadiq Umrani, Shia Conference President Syed Ashraf Zaidi, PPP Provincial Minister Ismail Gujjar and Balochistan Anjuman-e-Tajeraan President Abul Rahim Kakar.
The participants marched through different parts of the city amid strict security as heavy contingents of the Frontier Corps, Police, Balochistan Constabulary (BC) and Anti-Terrorism Force have been deployed in the city.
The participants, most of whom were traders and political activists, were carrying placards and chanted slogans like: “We want peace. We discourage religious hatred.”
Addressing the rally, speakers said they were with the government to eradicate terrorism. They condemned the killing of lecturer Muhammad Danish who was recently shot dead by unidentified assailants in Quetta. They urged the religious scholars, political leaders and civil society to play their role in spreading religious harmony and unity among the people in the province.
